This is a simplified estimate. The real CEC Section 8 calculation applies additional demand factors to appliances, heating, and other loads that this tool doesn't fully model. Use this to get a rough sense of scale, then confirm the exact number with a licensed electrician's load calculation before sizing a real service.

How this estimate is built

  • Basic load: 5000 W for the first 90 m² of living area, plus 1000 W for each additional 90 m² or portion — covers general lighting and receptacles.
  • Electric range: 6000 W flat for a range up to 12 kW, plus 40% of any rating above 12 kW.
  • Dryer: counted at a flat 5000 W if present.
  • Water heater, space heating, and other 240V loads: counted at 100% of the connected load you enter (the real code allows some diversity here that this tool doesn't apply).
