ESA Permit & Licensed Electrician Mandatory: Hot tub electrical installations are high-risk wet locations under CEC Section 68. Incorrect GFCI bonding can be lethal.
CEC Section 68 Hot Tub Rules
- The outdoor emergency GFCI shutoff switch must be located between 3 metres (10 ft) and 7.5 metres (25 ft) from the tub, visible from the water.
- Conductors must include an insulated copper ground wire (NMD90 NM-B non-metallic sheath cable cannot be buried outdoors; use TECK90 armoured cable or NMWU in PVC conduit).
- All metallic parts, handrails, and metal structures within 1.5 m (5 ft) of the spa must be bonded to the equipotential grid with minimum 6 AWG copper bonding conductor.
