HomeWireHelp exists to answer the questions homeowners and DIYers actually search for — in plain language, with CEC/OESC references cited where they apply. Every guide flags its skill level and whether a permit is likely required, so you know before you start whether it's a job for you or a job for a licensed electrician.

Written by working electricians, not keyword writers

Every guide and calculator on this site is written or reviewed against the current edition of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I (CEC) and the Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC). Where local amendments apply, they're flagged.

Code changes. What was correct under the 2012 edition may differ from the 2021 edition. We flag the edition where it's relevant and recommend confirming against your local Authority Having Jurisdiction before starting any permitted work.
